lest I follow the siren's song...or something to the effect [Feb. 25th, 2006|04:08 pm]

I can't help but be satisfied with some of british bands that have appeared in the last couple of years. I'm glad that they draw from punk, but sound more new waveish, like angry britpop. I have a few videos of the bands on my myspace...I would be content to have my own band sound as such.

Musical Musings [Feb. 4th, 2006|07:39 pm]

So...Pete Doherty is in jail for the time being...he was arrested <3> times in 1 day! Poor sod, and the album still isn't released in the US. The Transplants apparently split up, and I didn't get to go see them at warped tour, that's just a shame. But hey, I read somewhere that Skinhead Rob, Travis Barker and Paul Wall are starting a new band, that is something to watch for, no doubt.

get down in fucking albion already! [Jan. 10th, 2006|08:29 pm]

I have been waiting for this album since The Libertines broke up in late 2004. They were an indie/garage revival band that was very popular in England during the past several years, but band drama-initiated by their now infamous lead singer Pete Doherty-lead them to brake up. They popularity was minimal in the United States, but nonetheless they were a superb band produced by the likes of Mick Jones of The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite. As most rockers who still have rock left in them at the time of their demise, they birthed new musical offspring. Pete Doherty started Babyshambles and guitarist Carl Barat (featured in background on my myspace page) started Dirty Pretty Things. While Dirty Pretty Things have received almost no press (to my knowledge), Babyshambles on the other hand has received more than any band needs or deserved, again it can all be attributed to the mad genius of Pete Doherty. He is the epitome of what a headline maker should be: crazy, troubled, reckless, yet talented. People have compared him to Sid Vicious...but only 3 of those describe Sid; crazy, troubled, reckless Sid...poor sod. But all can attach themselves to Doherty. He has a certain wistful, charming romanticism about him, which makes it hard to believe he is on the verge of becoming a junkie (if the fucker already hasn't). He admits to doing the brown and white, and has been arrested numerous times on the accusation of carrying narcotics. It doesn't help that he recently ended a highly publicized relationship with British model Kate Moss not too long ago. She got caught snorting lines at the studio where Babyshambles was recording and when aware of the possibility of losing millions of dollars in contracts she whet to rehab somewhere in the states. She convinced Doherty to go, in a desperate attempt to redeem himself and win back his love, he flew to this rehab center and showed his dedication to Moss by completing about 7 days of the 60 day program. NICE JOB ya idiot! She subsequently broke it off and now has a barely legal boytoy with her at all times. In a state of depression and desperation, he struggled to rid himself of her memory by stabbing himself with a knife where he had tattoos of her name done a in the sprit of perpetual love and ink...I guess not.

But, I didn't come here to give you the crazy fucker's life story, although it certainly turned out that way, huh? I call him "fucker" and "idiot". I feel like I'm putting the poor guy down an awful lot...but I really want this album! It's more like a vent than an attack. So I guess it's actually a compliment. And also I think he's a brilliant, so it sucks to see him waste it away. I think a lot of his fans have a love-hate relationship with the guy. But I kinda idolize the guy. His lyrics strike me as amazing and have a abstract wisdom to them, but none being confusing to the listener, more of a interesting ambiguity. Listening to them is always a small game of catharsis and self-discovery.

All the bands that I could call favorites and objects of (small) obsession, have been so in their own post-mortem. The Beatles, The Ramones, Clash, even the Libertines had barely called it quits before I got their cd. So to have a band like Babyshambles is a bit of new experience for me. I share a uniting sentiment with other fans that their popularity, or lack thereof, in the United States is more of a reason to stick with them; or read up about them; it gives us a feeling of being unique and an upper hand on others. They are much more appealing that way. It's also much calmer over here when it comes his doings; no one over here even cares or knows who this guy is. So the gossip and hassle that comes with it is nonexistent. Much simpler to be a fan...but at the same time not.

Now to what I started this entry about. Babyshambles highly anticipated (or highly avoided) album, "DOWN IN ALBION", which was forged out of canceled sessions, police raids, management difficulties, no-shows, and numerous instances when inability to play due to drug impairment caused delays, were reasons in themselves to hear it. That is an attracting factor, but to know that Pete Doherty has his drug laced hand in the group is enough for me, like I said earlier, the guy's musicianship/lyricism is leaps and bounds beyond anyone besides Joe Strummer in my opinion.

Okay that's all great and well, but the album release was expected for Nov. 14. I went to the local record dealer that night only to find that the album wasn't released in the United States. I contemplated buying as an import, but fiscal issues kept me from that. I don't know what the deal is. It's almost as if it is different album here, like all the hub-ub made it what it was. The record company needs to realize that there are more people interested than they think, and MTV needs to realize that it's quality of the album, not quantity of sales that make music videos worthy of air-play. It's now early January and gossip about the album being released in the US seems to be grounded in that Jan 10, TODAY was going to the day for all days to come! But alas calls to the local record dealers again ended in a defeated spirit for Leni Carrillo. Jan. 17 the now the expected delivery date for Peter Doherty's baby of shambles. All I can say is..."down in america we're black and blue...and were waiting for OUR FUCKING CD!!."

Ring! Ring! It's 7:00 A.M.! [Jan. 9th, 2006|10:27 pm]

So...I got a new alarm clock. The one that stood on my shelf last night was never defective in anyway, but when you can wake up to the sound of The Clash instead of the monotonous *beep* *beep* *beep* of your coventional alarm, you would buy one too! I have never been an impulsive buyer, I usally get nervous, hesitate, and let the moment pass me by, but not tonight, oh no. A trip to Circuit City (fueled by saved lunch money and a $35 gift card) lead to a cd alarm clock and a $20 set of all 3 jarassic park dvds, now those movies are the shit! ...well the first one is...

I guess that should have been more ineresting, but I'm still feeling out what will pass for "live journal worthiness".

to start things off... [Jan. 8th, 2006|05:36 pm]

[Current Music |Transplants]

So I got one of these. Some of my friends have them, so I need to find on here. I'm still not quite sure how to use this thing, so if anybody wants to help out that would be grand! Anyway, I'm not sure why I got one of these contraptions, I've always been into computers and I always try to start journals, but I can never be bothered to actually put down my thoughts, I resort to thinking (and in turn forgetting them). Maybe this might give me incentive to do it. I think many thoughts (that sounded stupid) and I'm starting to think I should record them...for my own gratification...I didn't do this for you. I'm not sure that anyone reading this would think I was speaking to them, but whatever.

I have a myspace and it was really easy to setup, this one proved a bit more challenging, but I got through it biotch! Right now I'm watching Arrested Devlopment on dvd, it is the most genious show on television besides Curb Your Enthusiasm.
